Imagine my surprise – and pleasure – when I turned to see Astoria the wild turkey on the Battery Bikeway yesterday morning!
I wasn’t able to get a good photo of her, but I was thrilled to get a glimpse of the turkey on the run.

Astoria, named for the neighborhood in Queens she flew over from, arrived in Manhattan last year and made a scene in Midtown. Police have been unable to nab her. Turkeys can fly for short distances. In 2003 Zelda the turkey arrived in Battery Park, and lived there until 2014.
Hopefully folks will leave Astoria alone and she will make it back to her home in Roosevelt Island.
