The Shops at Hudson Yards never disappoints for beauty and class. Take a walk with me and see Vessel and the gorgeous holiday lights!
The Shops at Hudson Yards has been open since 2019; from the start it’s been filled with high-end swag. It’s airy, clean and a super place to people watch if shopping isn’t in your budget. Hudson Yards is on the west side of Midtown. I usually walk up West 34th Street and turn in at Bella Abzug Park at 10th Avenue. You can also take the 7 subway line.
Truly, Hudson Yards is dominated by Vessel, built in 2019. Vessel is decorated in lights for the holidays. Unfortunately, Vessel has been “temporarily” closed since 2021 due to a number of suicides, but I’m still hoping it will reopen. I’ve been up it a few times and it’s spectacular. I’m adding a few photos below, and think I’ll do a separate post on Vessel.
Behind Vessel (above) is 15 Hudson Yards (2019). Originally called “Tower D” (seriously?), the building has 285 residential units. It’s got an aquatics center with a 75-foot-long swimming pool, spa, fitness center, yoga studio, children’s playroom, private dining suites, screening room, golf club lounge, wine storage, and business center. The building also features the “Skytop”, an open-air terrace on top of the building that is marketed as the highest outdoor residential roof deck in New York City. I could do that.
Below is a photo from one of my visits to Vessel when it was open in 2020. There are 154 flights of stairs (almost 2,500 individual ones), so it’s a great workout.
Looking down from one of the lower levels on Vessel.
I love photographing The Shed – something about the texture makes the photos seem touched up, unreal somehow. The Shed brings together established and emerging artists in fields ranging from hip hop to classical music, painting to digital media, theater to literature, and sculpture to dance. The roof is on wheels and moves to adapt to support all kinds of inventive work under one roof. Pretty cool!
In the Hudson Yards atrium, looking down at the wonderful holiday decorations. The theme is always hot air balloons, this biggest one above the rear entrance measures 32 feet!
Standing in the same spot, you can get a feel for the glass and lightness of the mall that makes it such an enjoyable experience to wander in.
The entire rear side is glass, you can view Vessel as you ascend each level.
What says Christmas better than candy? Lots, actually, but how can ya not look inside Dylan’s Candy Bar and imagine millions of happy kids? The mall is also home to Neuhaus Belgian Chocolates and Li-Lac Chocolates (not to mention Magnolia Bakery and macaroons from Laduree.
There are more than 2 million yellow holiday lights at Hudson Yards! The lights are called Shine Bright, and sponsored by Wells Fargo.

I couldn’t resist.
Zara is one of my favorite stores in the city to window shop. Looks like I’m not the only one who appreciates it…
I think “dapper” perfectly describes this shot. @a1exander50
Cartier’s first west-side Manhattan boutique, located in The Shops at Hudson Yards, boasts a sophisticated modern design. I like the 5th Avenue one better, though.
Hudson Yards is always a great place to grab a bite, take a rest or just make a pit stop. It never seems over crowded here, even though its only two days before Christmas. My favorite time to come is in the autumn when the annual Fleurs de Villes show is on. You can see my photos of the flower show here.
Thank you for walking with me and letting me share the sights at Hudson Yards. I hope you’ll come back to see more real NYC photos.
