There’s no place like NYC for a good street fair. Creative art, yummy food, clothes, music…there’s something for everyone. And with a city this big, there’s always one happening. Sure, summer 2023 is pretty much behind us…but there’s still a ton of street fairs on the calendar, though the fall and beyond.

Midtown Street Fairs

June Rose Handcrafted Jewelry at The Great Sixth Avenue Festival. She had the most beautiful jewelry made of preserved flowers; it was my favorite booth at the fair.

The Sixth Avenue Merchandise Fair will be Sunday, 9/10/23 at 6th Ave from 14th – 23rd Street.
I love the sound of the djembe; I have one of my own. How wonderful that you can actually buy one right out on the street. This photo was taken at the Great Sixth Avenue Festival.

Uptown Street Fairs
If you’ll be uptown, check out one of these street fairs:
- Lexington Avenue Fall Festival – Sun 10/22/23 10 am – 6 pm – Lexington (42nd – 54th St.) In years past, this fair has featured quite a few live performances including casts from Broadway (Chicago, Mean Girls, Tootsie), as well as from 92Y’s own Harkness Dance Center.
- Upper Madison Street Fair – Sun. 10/1/23 12 – 5pm, Lexington Ave (86th St- 90th St.)
- West Side Broadway Fair – Sun. 10/8/23 Broadway (72nd – 82nd St.)
- Lexington Avenue Fall Festival – Sun 10/22/23 10 am – 6 pm – Lexington (42nd – 54th St.)
My favorite part of a street festival: the visual arts. And they’re usually very reasonably priced.
If art is your thing, check out the 2023 Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit. It’s Sat/Sun, 9/9/23 – 9/10/23 from 12 noon to 6 pm. The show runs along University Place from E. 13th St. down to Waverly Place.
The Hester Street Fair
The Hester Street Fair lost their original venue, but they are often at Pier 17 in the Seaport District. They’ll be there – with music – a few more times before the season closes:
- Sat. 9/16/23 – Classic Market
- Sat. 10/14/23 – Vintage Day
- Sat-Sun 10/28-10/29/23 – Halloween Weekend
- Sat-Sun 11/4-11/5/23 – Closing Weekend

The Bleecker Street Festival – West Village is Sat. 9/16/23 on Bleecker St. from 10th – 11th St.
The Feast of San Gennaro
The Feast of all Feasts – the 97th annual Feast of San Gennaro runs September 14 – 24, 2023 this year in Little Italy. Check out the full schedule of events here.
NYC Bazaars
Fair trade baskets and African handmade gifts from Al Makoum Goods. According to the website each purchase empowers a West African woman. Check them out here.

NYC East Side Street Fairs
It’s a flea market vibe in the East Village, right up my alley.
The next East Village Street Fair is Sat. 10/7/23, Fourth Ave (10th – 12th St.)
The East Village is so fun – everyone is just themselves and you really feel a sense of community down here.
For LES flavor, hit the annual Henry Street Settlement Community Day, Saturday 9/9/23, 12-6 pm at 269 Henry St., Lower East Side.
NYC Flea Markets
Like flea markets? Check out:
- Chelsea Flea, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue at 29 West 25th St. Saturdays and Sundays year-round, from 8 am – 4 pm.
- Brooklyn Flea, DUMBO Archway, 80 Pearl St.

This is such a nugget of the BEST information! For me, there’s nothing like a street fair for great food, people watching, local color and the WARES. I’ve purchased my favorite gifts at these venues! I can only say thank you to Deb. I’ve already looked into some of her links.
