Before I end my day in the City, I often enjoy taking a quick spin through elegant Bryant Park. It’s a great place to mark the changing of the seasons. With the sudden cooling off of the weather this weekend I thought I’d take a quick walk through the park and see what changes are happening.
Sure enough, big changes! The Bryant Park Winter Village is getting constructed as I write. The Village will be open by October 27, 2023 and runs until March 3, 2024.
There’s still a lot of green in Bryant Park, but you can see the London Plane trees have started their change.
The W.R. Grace Building (1974), at 1114 Sixth Ave gracefully soars over Bryant Park.
It truly is enormous, and this photo puts it into perspective.
It must be autumn – the Mums have been planted. In the background is the former Aeolian Building (1912), now the SUNY College of Optometry, 33 West 42nd Street.
I disrupted his nap. He’s so dark you can barely see his eye looking at you!
I slowly backed away…and he slowly went back to sleep.

I’m really enjoying the lushness of the Coleus. I always want to pinch a tip off to start a houseplant, but never do. They don’t travel well and dry out very quickly.
Grey skies over Bryant Park as workers begin putting together the 17,000 square foot skating rink.
The planters in the park add so much to the beauty. They perfectly match the nearby New York Public Library.
A quick hello to Gertrude Stein. Stein was a trailblazing author and arts patron who lived 1874-1946. The sculpture’s proximity to the New York Public Library reflects her significant literary contributions—from plays, librettos, and film scripts to biographies, autobiographies, lectures, essays, poems, and novels – Bryant Park Monuments.
I always take this northern walk where the park meets the NY Public Library. The plantings are lovely, yet you can still look out at the business of Fifth Ave at 42nd Street. And see the Chrysler Building!
I’m grateful for this city that makes flowers a priority. And, despite all the craziness going on (the protest in Times Square on the Middle East violence was going on just a few blocks away as I took these photos), I’m grateful for every day I get to spend on these streets. New York City always offers me a place to sit, the best food to be found, and images I can hold in my heart until I return.

So love Bryant Park. Thank you for another more seasonal post! The newly-planted mums in the ornate planters really got me. Wish I could “like” “love” my favorites! The black bird and single leaf with coin were two more I went back to view several times. Enjoyed your subtle little comments under each photo!
I’m happy you enjoyed this. I also enjoy photos that capture the seasons. And Bryant Park is a never-miss locale!
