It wouldn’t be Spring in NYC without Macy’s Flower Show. I wouldn’t miss it for anything (almost)! This year’s theme is “Floral Dreams Unfold”, a dreamy escape from reality.
The Window Displays

The Flower Show began in Macy’s San Francisco store in 1946, to promote fragrances. Macy’s Herald Square got on board in 1975. Once a small affair, the show has grown to become a welcome annual tradition.

The reflections of the buildings on the windows are actually one of my favorite parts of the Flower Show. Below One Vanderbilt takes a cameo.

I tried hard to find the designers of the clothing the mannequin’s wore, but with no luck.

The mirrors create the illusion of depth to the displays, and enhances the dreamscape.
Indoor Floral Displays
There are over 8,000 plants and 50,000 flowers at the show. The flowers are provided by The Bouqs Co., from all corners of the globe, including Ecuador’s regions of Pichincha, Cotopaxi, and Guayas, and Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, and across the United States.
Floral Columns

The flowers are misted and trimmed daily. Watering them is done at night and take six to nine hours.

The Garden Critters

Many of the exhibits are designed by students from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Another of the “Surrealist Garden” designs – this one a chameleon.

The floral landscapes were prepared by artists ManscapersNY

It seems to me that there are less flowers this year, and more sculptural materials. It’s really not a surprise, given the rising cost of everything. The spin is that it’s a “powerful modern statement”.

It’s fun to watch the busy shoppers – easy to do when you’re not shopping yourself.

YSL
YSL is promoting their new LIBRE L’EAU NUE, their first alcohol-free citrus floral scent. The flower show is a chance for the perfume counters to promote their latest and greatest floral fragrances.

Macy’s Flower Show is always one of the best things about spring in New York City. I’m grateful that I had the chance to enjoy the beautiful flowers and the fun atmosphere of Macy’s.

The 2025 flower show runs from April 27th to May 18th, 2025 at Macy’s Herald Square, 151 West 34th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
